Sea week

Last week at school was really encouraging. I decided to base the weeks learning and crafting around a book. I chose a simple book based on the sea which contained simple 4 line poems about some of the different creatures that live there. It seemed to really engage the children and they all enjoyed the theme I had put together which included star fish rubbing, fish hand painting, octopus making, sea creature bingo, shell and water play, whale paper bags and sea turtle discs. They loved watching the videos I brought in and snapshots from the different beaches I have been blessed to live near as a child. We pretended to make waves and jump over them - a couple were filled with joy as they ran away from the imaginary water. We rounded off the week with a quiz and it seemed that the children had grasped the names and the facts about the animals they had had to remember - BIG thumbs up!  It really was a fun week with them - especially seeing as none of them have ever seen the sea and possibly never will. I am hoping that this next weeks theme of 'teeth' will be equally engaging and encouraging! Here are some shots of what my kids made this last week. I am so proud of them!!
