This was the start to my Wednesday. Mr Magician Extraordinaire who told Alex and I "hurry up and finish your breakfast the theater is about to start". We walked through to the living room to find two seats facing the stage (a table covered in blankets) and our host proudly standing on top of it. This was Alex's reaction.
A funny yet short magic skit was followed by the arrival of two friendly puppets - thing one and thing two (what can I say we read 'The cat in the Hat' a lot).
What a start to the day - smiles all round. It's great when you can really watch your kids express themselves.
Later on that day we went for a walk through the grey and wet town - but that didn't stop our boys from enjoying themselves as they trundled through on a toddlers trike with a make shift trailer attached.
We were stared at quite a lot but as foreigners with expression filled children - when are we not?
Cristi looked at me today on our walk and plainly said "Mama I wish I had been in your belly, then I would be Scottish. But I'm a gypsy and therefore I'm ugly and bad". This made me want to cry. It's so hard trying to teach your kids to be proud of who and what they are when they live in a culture where their heritage is constantly shunned and berated. This provides an illusion to them that it is normal and OK to talk about people this way, the people they biologically come from because the bigotry is so wildly spread about the Roma. It's sad sad sad!
However, I don't want to end on a sad note so I will show you how we ended our day.
The boys decided to help me clean and they were Oh so excited to do so.
I mean come on don't they look cool? However, my boy (like his mama not so fond of the cleaning process) thought it was much cooler to stay outside playing in the mud and rain. Needless to say the dirtiest thing at the end of the night was him.
