"How was school? What happened today?" Sometimes I am so shocked by the tales that come after this question that I daily ask my son. Sometimes I feel so saddened by the things he tells me about his teacher. How are people like this allowed to work with children??!?!
1st: He told me about some children who were playing 'chappie' on the classroom door. I can understand that that would frustrate the teacher but this method of dealing with it stunned me a little. "So she went outside and found the kids and we were all really silent in the classroom and we heard her slapping the kids and calling them stupid" Oi oi oi!!
2nd: He told me that the teacher blurted out "yuk what's that smell" before proceeding to walk round the entire classroom smelling every child's armpits. When she found the girl she deemed to be the culprit she started to tell her, in front of everybody, how smelly and dirty she was sending her out the room and making her go wash herself in the bathroom. When she came back she told her she still smelled and would have to sit at the back of the classroom for the rest of the day, and that she wasn't to come back to school smelling like that again. Can you imagine being that poor child?
These stories made me so ridiculously sad today. Luckily his 4 years with this lady are soon over and I am so glad for that. What an example to set for such young and malleable minds :(
